Talking in the 19th Hole
DRIVER. Why a golf column with so much information on the subject on the internet and on social media? because the experienced player and the amateur who has not yet played, want to know the details of the game and the fashion notes without having to spend so much time looking for them. In essence, it is the same behavior as a golfer. We want to go straight to the flagstick without making so many shots in the rough, bunkers, penalty areas, and out of bounds.
The subjects of golf are so many and diverse that it is not possible to be a specialist in all of them. This complexity is explained, in part, by the size of the golf course. The average 18-hole course of a golf course is 6,700 yards, just over 6 kilometers. The average length used for a golf course is 44 hectares. Only sports where long distances are covered, such as cycling, marathon, walking, etc. They have a longer route and space.
The jobs of those who work around golf, plus those who play it, add up to a considerable number of people interested in golf. Thus we see that doctors are interested in playing golf to participate in the tournament of the next convention. The seller of lots or houses in a seaside resort wants to understand golf to use as a sales pitch, and the marketing director of a company wants to understand it to use it as a means to reach that elite market.
One of the reasons that make golf attractive is the subject of business. The traditional way of doing business in the office or the more relaxed way in the restaurant is overcoming by the atmosphere of a golf course and the Club facilities. A lot of sports due to their characteristics are not suitable for business. For example, it would be uncommon to hear: Let´s play soccer to talk about it.
WOODS. In golf, there is a tradition of labeling a bad swing saying that you have a baseball swing, which shows an ignorance of both swings. The sequence of movements of a baseball player when hitting or throwing the ball is the same as that of a golfer. The golfer would greatly benefit from playing baseball or simply throwing golf balls by hand or hitting golf, tennis, or baseball balls with an aluminum bat. Golfers who have played baseball include Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Jumbo Ozaki, and Jack Nicklaus.

IRONS. The Rules suggest that the player should put an identifying mark on the ball to be played (Rule 6.3a). I have observed that most of the balls that are recovering from the lakes are not marked, which shows that golfers suffer from an identity crisis, for not applying this simple suggestion. The art of marking the ball is unrestricted: dots, stripes, words, and even graffiti are allowed. Even a straight line, arrow, or full circle to facilitate alignment is legal. I met a mom who marked her son’s ball with a happy face so that he would remember that golf is for fun and not for tantrums. I was impressed by that detail. Decide how you will mark your ball, and the next time you go to the stationery shop, buy a permanent marker of your favorite color.

Putting a mark that identifies your ball will avoid problems. Let’s see some of the scenarios of the negative impact that your score can have when you cannot identify your ball:
– Playing a wrong ball, for example, if you play another player’s ball in play or a stray ball, you will have the general penalty of two strokes in stroke play.
– Not being able to identify your ball above a tree, and therefore it is considered as lost. Following Rule 7.2/1. If a player sees a ball in a tree or some other location where he or she is unable to retrieve the ball, the player may not assume that it is his or hers but rather must identify it in one of the ways provided in Rule 7.2. This may be done even though the player is unable to retrieve the ball, such as by:
o Using binoculars or a distance-measuring device to see a mark that definitely identifies it as the player’s ball, or
o Determining that another player or spectator saw the ball come to rest in that specific location after the player’s stroke”

– That your ball is considered lost because another player also brings the same ball. For example, Players A and B send their tee shots to the same area. But as they were playing identical balls and neither one has placed an identification mark on their balls. They were unable to determine which was A’s ball and which of B. Since neither player could identify their ball, both balls are considered lost.
